Non-pharmacological Strategies to Manage Sundowner Behavior Webinar
Wednesday, June 05, 2019, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM MDT
Category: Webinars
Dementia care is too often managed only medically rather than within the context of the person's relationship with his or her family or caregiver, which can strain all involved. If left untreated, Behavioral Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) can contribute to an increased cost of care, heightened stress to nursing and caregivers, and decreased quality of life and meaningful purpose for the resident. The session will present a dynamic evidence-based review of nonpharmacological interventions for individuals with dementia who exhibit Sundowner behaviors. We will review common behaviors at each progressive stage with people who have dementia and strategies to reduce these, as well as supportive evidence-based interventions to effectively reduce such behaviors, all through person centered approaches. Consequently the recommended interactive approaches will empower team members and communities to reshape what was once perceived as problems, into a sense of purpose and meaning for their residents. As the residents are assisted with activities of purpose, their quality of life will be enriched. Learning Objectives
